About

title underline

Love Letters to Turbulence is an interdisciplinary project exploring healing after trauma, offering creative opportunities to re/imagine ideas of identity through re/considering. This Digital Container is a co-created, interactive environment for sharing autobiographical narratives relating to trauma, the effects and affects it may have in and on our bodies over time, and how we may choose to heal.

Love Letters to Turbulence is for survivors and supporters, offering a collaborative, respectful, and safe(r)/safe-enough space that is inclusive of all the voices that choose to speak, and witness; all identities are welcome, including 2SLGBTQIA+, IBPOC, Mad, d/Deaf, and crip.

You’re invited to anonymously share one or more autobiographical narratives, read previously shared narratives, and/or re/share a previously shared narrative from a new perspective.

To protect mutual safety, privacy, and anonymity, please leave out specific names, identification details, and/or locations. All contributions will be reviewed before being shared to make sure they meet these guidelines. Once confirmed the guidelines are met, they will be shared via random automation.

Resources

title underline

If you find engaging with this work to be overwhelming, please consider practising a method of self-care and/or contacting a friend, peer, partner, family member, counsellor, crisis centre, and/or support resource you may find helpful.

We recognize ‘Survivor' is not a term everyone uses. If that word doesn’t feel right for you, please use whatever language feels most accurate and affirming.

Here is a starter list of some support resources that mostly offer free and/or accessible services, are anonymous if you choose, and often 24/7. If you are outside these resources’ areas, please search online for related support in your specific area:

Battered Women's Support Services
BC Survivors for Male Sexual Abuse
Crisis Centre + Suicide Prevention
Family Services of Greater Vancouver
Foundry (youth 12-24)
Qmunity
Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre
Vancouver Association for Survivors of Torture
Vancouver Rape Relief and Women's Shelter

Terms Of Use

This Digital Container is launching universally alongside the Love Letters to Turbulence opening reception at THIS ___ Gallery, August 22 2026, 1-4pm. It will remain active and continue to collect narratives throughout the Love Letters to Turbulence travelling exhibition duration run (2029-08-30). After which, a digital (and potentially a hard-cover) artist book will be created, combining selections of the ‘manuscript’, contributed zines, and works anonymously donated through related workshops.

Any and all images, words, ideas, resources, and events universally created, shared, and offered by and through the Love Letters to Turbulence project, in any manner or form (participatory, hard-copy, and/or digital), are not meant to act as therapy, medical care, and/or advice and do not create a practitioner-client/patient relationship.

As outlined in the complete Terms of Use document, through contribution you agree that you are 16 years of age or older; you agree to have your narrative vetted to be sure it meets the project’s guidelines, and you agree to have your narrative universally shared through any medium that falls within the Love Letters to Turbulence project.

Land Acknowledgement

Love Letters to Turbulence is launched from the unceded, traditional and ancestral territories of the Coast Salish Peoples, the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh and səlilwətaɬ First Nations.

Love Letters to Turbulence is committed to the care, transparency, and accountability needed to provide an accessible-enough space through continual re-examining of the colonial and patriarchal impacts of systemic privileges and power that may show up within, and alongside, this project.
